landscape'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>La libert\u00e9 d&rsquo;expression se mesure \u00e0 la capacit\u00e9 d&rsquo;une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 supporter la contradiction. Peu de professions lui tendent un miroir aussi impitoyable que les caricaturistes politiques. Un seul trait, un seul mot peut d\u00e9masquer un pr\u00e9sident, embarrasser un directeur d&rsquo;entreprise ou mettre en sc\u00e8ne toute une nation. C&rsquo;est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment pour cette raison que ces dessinateurs politiques sont aujourd&rsquo;hui soumis \u00e0 une pression massive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quand les r\u00e9dactions craquent<\/strong><br \/>\nChappatte, dessinateur suisse de renomm\u00e9e internationale, a longtemps collabor\u00e9 avec l\u2019\u00e9dition internationale du <em>New York Times<\/em>. En 2019, le journal a supprim\u00e9 sa rubrique de dessins politiques : officiellement, une d\u00e9cision strat\u00e9gique ; en r\u00e9alit\u00e9, un retrait devant une forme jug\u00e9e trop risqu\u00e9e de critique.<\/p>\n<p>Ann Telnaes, prix Pulitzer au <em>Washington Post<\/em>, a v\u00e9cu une exp\u00e9rience similaire. L\u2019un de ses dessins \u2014 montrant des milliardaires de la tech, dont Jeff Bezos, propri\u00e9taire du journal, s\u2019agenouillant devant un \u201croi Trump\u201d en lui tendant des sacs d\u2019argent \u2014 a \u00e9t\u00e9 censur\u00e9. pas seulement comme personnage<\/strong><br \/>\nLe volume est construit comme un dialogue : Chappatte et Telnaes racontent comment leur environnement de travail s&rsquo;est r\u00e9tr\u00e9ci depuis les ann\u00e9es 1990. Entre les deux, ils laissent parler leurs dessins anim\u00e9s. Trump est omnipr\u00e9sent dans ces images &#8211; en tant que roi, mafieux, figure de monstre grotesque ou joueur de golf qui envoie le monde valser comme une balle.<\/p>\n<p>Mais il ne s&rsquo;agit pas seulement d&rsquo;une personne. Trump repr\u00e9sente dans le livre une logique : les m\u00e9dias comme ennemis, la justice comme obstacle, les journalistes comme cibles. En agissant ainsi, on cr\u00e9e un climat dans lequel les r\u00e9dactions font marche arri\u00e8re par anticipation. Si le \u00ab\u00a0Washington Post\u00a0\u00bb omet en 2024 sa traditionnelle recommandation de vote et perd en contrepartie 10% de ses abonn\u00e9s, c&rsquo;est \u00e0 la fois un sympt\u00f4me et un signal d&rsquo;alarme.<\/p>\n<p>Les dessins anim\u00e9s transmettent ce diagnostic plus brutalement que n&rsquo;importe quel \u00e9ditorial. Une statue de la libert\u00e9 \u00e9trangl\u00e9e, un Oncle Sam apeur\u00e9, une presse qui se d\u00e9robe. De nombreuses images montrent comment la peur et l&rsquo;opportunisme \u00e9conomique minent la culture d\u00e9mocratique.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00ab\u00a0Armons nos crayons\u00a0\u00bb &#8211; Appel \u00e0 la contre-attaque<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00ab\u00a0Censure en Am\u00e9rique\u00a0\u00bb est structur\u00e9 comme un livre en quatre parties. La premi\u00e8re partie parle de l'\u00a0\u00bbEspace de libert\u00e9 qu&rsquo;on ferme\u00a0\u00bb &#8211; l&rsquo;espace de libert\u00e9 qui s&rsquo;est ouvert pendant des d\u00e9cennies et qui se referme progressivement. Les chapitres centraux se concentrent sur Trump et son syst\u00e8me d&rsquo;intimidation.<\/p>\n<p>La conclusion porte le titre programmatique \u00ab\u00a0Armons nos crayons\u00a0\u00bb. Chappatte et Telnaes y appellent \u00e0 ne pas d\u00e9sarmer le dessin politique, mais \u00e0 cr\u00e9er de nouveaux espaces pour lui : sur les sc\u00e8nes, dans les livres, sur des plateformes ind\u00e9pendantes, au-del\u00e0 des grands titres des grands groupes.<\/p>\n<p>Dans une perspective europ\u00e9enne, ce livre est un sismographe. Il montre \u00e0 quelle vitesse une opinion publique lib\u00e9rale peut basculer lorsque les m\u00e9dias pensent avant tout en termes de risque, de r\u00e9putation et de valeur actionnariale. La libert\u00e9 d&rsquo;expression est l&rsquo;indicateur le plus fiable d&rsquo;une d\u00e9mocratie, qui est mise en danger lorsqu&rsquo;un dessin anim\u00e9 jug\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0trop dur\u00a0\u00bb ne trouve plus d&rsquo;\u00e9diteurs ou de r\u00e9dactions en chef qui aient le courage de le publier.<\/p>\n<p><em>Patrick Chappatte et Ann Telnaes : \u00ab\u00a0Censure en Am\u00e9rique\u00a0\u00bb.
